Kim Grandfield will give an Armchair Travelers presentation entitled “Hut to Hut in the Italian Alps: Via Ferrata!” on Thursday, July 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Storytime Room, 1188 S. Livermore Avenue. Registration is not required to attend this free event for adults. The Italian Alps, also known as the Dolomites, is a magical mountain range of jagged limestone peaks rising above beautiful green valleys. The peaks feature trekking routes fitted with steel cables that allow hikers to access terrain that would otherwise require expert climbing skills. This system of cables is called “via ferrata,” which translates to "iron path.” Kim Grandfield will share photos and stories of a five-day via ferrata hut trip he took with his wife, daughter, and friend on Via delle Bocchette, one of the world’s most spectacular mountain traverses.
